3 Ways to Purify Water Without a Filter
Share
In a survival situation, clean water is more important than food. You can survive weeks without eating — but only about 3 days without water. If you don’t have a filter, here are 3 reliable ways to purify what you find:
1. Boil It
Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute (3 minutes at high altitudes). This kills bacteria, viruses, and parasites.
2. Use Purification Tablets or Bleach
-
Tablets: Follow the instructions — usually 1 tablet per liter. Let sit for 30–60 minutes.
-
Bleach: Add 2 drops of unscented bleach per liter. Stir and wait 30 minutes. Water should have a slight chlorine smell.
3. Solar Still (Last Resort)
Dig a hole. Place a container in the middle. Add wet plants around it. Cover with clear plastic and put a rock in the center. Sunlight will evaporate water into the container.
🛑 Warning: Never drink unfiltered or untreated water from rivers, ponds, or puddles. Even if it looks clean, it could make you dangerously sick.
